Fred Wiehe is a member of the Horror Writer's Association. He writes novels that crossover many genres: horror, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, suspense and supernatural thrillers. Contact Fred at fwiehe@fredwiehe.com. Give him a brief synopsis (no more than 1 or 2 paragraphs) of your manuscript, along with word and page count (he critiques and edits both short stories and novels). He will then contact on whether he feels he can help or not. Criteria for his help is if he feels your work falls under his area of expertise. He might feel you could be better served by someone else. When appropriate, he might make a recommendation.

Following a favorable response from Fred, he'll include an estimate of price and time for the work. Upon your agreement, you'll be asked to forward a complete copy of the manuscript as an email attachment in Word format. If you feel uncomfortable doing this then arrangements will be made to mail him a hard copy. You will have to pay shipping costs to and from Fred. That means including a self-addressed, stamped envelope or box for the return of your manuscript.

Fred will begin work on your project when he receives both the manuscript and payment in full. He accepts checks and payment through PayPal. PayPal is preferable. Don't worry if you don't have a PayPal account. They take all major credit cards.

SERVICES OFFERED:

1. Manuscript Evaluation or Critique: A broad overall assessment of your full manuscript, pinpointing strengths and weaknesses. Specific problems are flagged and general suggestions for improvement are made. This is usually one to five pages long.

2. Content Editing: Focuses on structure, style, and content. Specific problems are flagged--structural difficulties, poor pacing, plot inconsistencies, stiff dialogue, use of minutia, poorly-developed characters, stylistic trouble, and flabby writing.

3. Line Editing: Editing at the sentence level and focusing on paragraph and sentence structure, word use, dialogue, and rhythm, aiming to create smooth, consistent prose.

4. Copy Editing: Correction of common errors, incorrect usage, lapses in logic, and continuity problems.

5. Proofreading: Checking for typos, spelling and punctuation errors, formatting mistakes and other mechanical problems.

Again, email Fred the short synopsis and word count for an estimate of time and price. Please indicate the service or services you want from the list above. Fred critiques and edits short stories and novels. Nothing's too short or too long. Both hard-copy manuscripts and email attachments will receive a detailed one to five page overall critique, with suggestions and examples for how to fix whatever problems he finds. Hard-copy manuscripts will have specific problems flagged with red pen. Word-file, email attachments will get specific problems flagged by BOLD CAPS directly into the manuscript. Insignificant punctuation and spelling problems could be fixed at time of reading.
